In Virginia you are no longer allowed to smile in your driver's license photo. The reason being they use facial recognition software and smiling supposedly messes it up.

I know, after being there all day odds are you aren't going to feel like smiling. There are 3 more states, I can't remember which ones right now that are the same way.

Why would anyone want to smile after waiting hours in line?

I agree, but I don't think they should be able to tell me I can't.

Me and my father had a 3 hour trip to the RMV today, I had to re-take my learners permit test (and failed, they made it a lot harder then when I first took it) and he had to renew his license.

Fun times, fun place. The employees seemed to take long, frequent breaks....

I have to renew mine in a few months, I'll probably just do it online; which would keep the same pic and save the aggravation of going. Plus won't have to take a day off to go or spend my Saturday there.

Don't worry about being behind, i never could have afforded a car in high school (reasonably) and can equally not afford one now with all my money going to college, so I've gotten by without driving yet. To be honest I think the minimum age should be 18 as I don't think you should entrust such a dangerous potential weapon to a teenager.
