Whats in a name? Meanings behind the titles.
The first episode does not have a title, and is only known as pilot.
The next two episodes are basically a two-parter, dealing with the aftermath of the first episode. The titles are "The Cat's in the Bag..." and "...and the Bag's in the River..." which come together to make a quote from the film Sweet Smell of Success. The line is said in the film in reference to a dirty deed that is done, just like the dirty deeds of taking care of Emilio and Krazy-8.
Episode four is called Cancer Man. Cancer man is obviouslly supposed to be Walt, but the name is also a refrence to a character in The X-Files, a show in which BB creator Vince Gilligan was a writer. The character did not have a name, but smoked and was often referred to as Cigarette Man, Smoking Man, or by one character, Cancer Man.
The next episode is called Crazy Handful of Nothing. This line is said by Marie when playing cards with the family, but is also from the film Cool Hand Luke.
The final episode of the season, A No-Rough-Stuff-Type Deal, is named after a line from the film Fargo, and also refers to the type of deal Walt wants to make, which obviouslly turns into exactly the opposite when Tuco beats one of his men to death.
